Architecture as Prose

A good architecture diagram reads like a sentence. There’s a subject — the user, the device, the ingest path — and there’s a verb. The job of the diagram is to surface that verb without ornament.

When we audit a system, the first thing we ask is: what are the verbs here? If we can’t write them down in a single line each, the architecture isn’t ready yet.
